What is pétanque?

Pétanque is the French cousin of bocce. Players take turns tossing steel boules as close as possible to a small target ball, called the jack. It's easy to learn, fun for all ages, and you can play it on almost any surface: gravel, dirt or grass.

Made by OBUT

OBUT has made pétanque boules in Saint-Bonnet-le-Château, France, since 1955. It's the best-known name in the game, and its boules are used everywhere from Sunday games to major international competitions. OBUT produces 100% in France, combining traditional know-how with modern precision.

Your Extremis boules are made in the same workshops. They're solid, rust-resistant stainless steel, engraved with "Extremis" and "OBUT made in France". The standard 1.37 lb (620 g) weight suits most hands. Because of the stainless steel, the boules can't be picked up with a magnet.

Bring your own balls

In pétanque, every player traditionally brings their own set of boules. That's why this is one set, for one player. To play a game, you need at least one more set: buy a second set, or play with a friend who brings their own.

That's also why, at Extremis, we have a strict "bring your own balls" policy. This is a high-quality set for amateur players. It's not made for official competitions.

Care

  • Clean the boules after each game, and at least once a month even when you don't use them.
  • Use a protective care product made for boules.
  • Don't leave them outdoors, in a car or in the sun. Big changes in temperature can cause rust and crack the case.
