Q: How wind resistant is the shade?
A: Tests in a windtunnel have shown that the shade withstands wind speeds up to 31 mph when anchored to the floor. Still, we strongly advise to close it sooner (from wind speed 18 mph).

Q: Can the Kosmos Shade be used as a freestanding parasol, or does it need to be attached to the Kosmos Lounge?

A: The Kosmos Shade can be installed in different ways. If you would like to attach it directly to the Kosmos Lounge, the lounge must be ordered with pre-drilled holes in the backrest to accommodate the shade.
Alternatively, the shade can be installed on a concrete wheeled base for a freestanding solution or fixed directly to the ground for a permanent installation.

Q: Is the fabric 100% waterproof?
A: With light rain you stay easily seated underneath the shade. The fabric is slightly slanted in opened position.  With heavy rain, the canvas lets through only a litte bit of water.   
This is typical for the fabric and necessary, because the fabric
should be able the ventilate.

Q: Do you need to use a parasol cover?
A: The cover is needed to protect and fix the parasol when not in use. Protect your parasol from polluted rain, bird dropping, dust, ..


The original (and patented) innovation of this cantilever umbrella is that it opens and closes horizontally, like a fan… Or a bird’s wings. A perfect example of biophilic design. 

The Kosmos round shade has an understated and clean look, as there are no visible technical components. Two hidden magnets keep the umbrella in the open position and leather straps are provided to hold it in its closed position. The span of this umbrella is remarkable and offers a clean, crisp view from below the suspended canopy.  The shade is available in two heights, making it easy to combine with any piece of furniture you like.
